Guest guest
ok, so Janet what do you do with a stubborn head ?? Seriously !! My daughter turned 5 in June. And she can sit on the couch and pee in her panties and it not bother her a bit. Thanks goodness I have a carpet - furniture cleaner. And then again other times she will go to the bath room. I am not sure. She just gets so busy or she just flat out will not go. She says "NO ma mee No." Other times she will come and tell me after that fact. This mom is getting tired of spending endless days with the potty runs. We have tried the every 30 min. and every hour going days. Those are the days she fights the most. Any clue what to do there ???? All of my kids trained late. About the age of 4 So I am just wondering maybe she needs more time. We did not rush our other kids. Thanks a bunch Carol P.Janet Caramello <janet@...> wrote: The "Potty Traning in a Day" book is similar to the ABR training. We read the book, listened to an ABR speaker, and then waited until grandma was in town to do it. Grandma is in her 80's and was the perfect person to PAY ATTENTION, have a comfy seat by the bathroom to read and play games with my daughter, and remind her with a gentle nudge to run to the potty any time an urge came. Within about 3 days she was potty trained. She was 40 months. She doesn't even wear pull-ups to sleep anymore! Before she got potty trained she was telling me either before, during, or immediately after she went in her diaper, so she was ready. Carol P. AIM iammamapie Giga iammamapie Shape in your own image. It could be sensory issues, it could be that they have a physical problem which makes it hurt to poop, it could be that their body just isn't sending the right signal at the right time. I wish I could say that we have been spending only a year or so in toilet training but sadly we've been doing the training for over 12 years now and while we have made some progress it's very slow. Trisha understands how to use the bathroom but there is so much more going on that trying to get her body to follow what her brain is telling her is almost like trying to wire up a lamp without the right wire. What "we" think they can do and what they are actually able to do is quite different. You can be bright and know that you have to turn the handle to open the door but if your muscles won't work the right way or the signal from your brain gets all jumbled up, you may not be able to open the door when someone thinks you should be able to do it. We have a behavior consultant both private and one at school that has also been working with Trisha on toilet training for several years as well as this has been in her IEP since she started school and one day it may just click but for right now it's an ongoing process. She does better having a bm on the toilet than urinating but even with the bm I think it's only when her stomach gripes that she feels the urge to go. Also, if she can't sit a certain way on the toilet she won't use it either. Guest guest
I remember when my older daughter was going through that. She was actually old enough to tell us that the reason she would not poop in the potty was because she thought it would hurt like it did when she pooped in the diaper. maybe that is what he is thinking. We had to bribe her to get her to go. She finally did and did not go in her pants any more. I just feel like my whole day is focused on the potty training right now and nothing else. And this has been going on for a year or more now. I work hard with her and then I back off to see if she will go on her own. Plus to give me a break. Sometimes she does well. other days she does not so great.... She is a bright child. She knows her ABC's, can count, play games, reads some, matches pictures together, colors & loves to draw, loves to swim , etc... I know she can do this. It is just getting her to take the time to do it. If she can boss me around. She CAN do this ..
