Guest guest
used to have severe sensory problems. He loved the beach, but couldn't stand the feel of sand on his skin. Sometimes things would be too dark for him (even in bright sunlight) and he would go around the house turning on all the lights. Other times he would think everything was too bright and make our house into a cave. Same with sound, sometimes it was too loud and he would whisper his one word sentences, and other times he would scream. I just found out another sensory problem he has just today. We were doing school work, and he suddenly said " Whas-smell? " I told him I didn't smell anything, and asked what he smelled. He said, " eggs. " Funny thing was, I've been having possible gall bladder problems, where you get gassy and burp bile. It tasted a little like rotten eggs, but I had burped with my mouth shut, then breathed out through my nose. He was sitting a good 3 feet from me - I would have problems too, if I could smell that good. Lately, he's been telling everyone they stink. I thought he associated every strong smell that bothered him as stinky, but apparently he can smell everyone's perspiration. . . Guest guest
Did anyone happen to see the 20/20 show on Sensory Integration Dysfunction? Spelling is correct on that! LOL I went to the web site and it sounds just like Seth. I didn't know that was something separate from Autism. I thought all the kids acted like Seth. Do all the kids here have sensory problems? That seems to be a bigger problem for Seth than the non-communication one. Is that normal for our kids or has Seth got yet something else? I am confused now! Guest guest
Actually, I just discovered this. I'll have to call the SI/OT and ask for suggestions. Since I homeschool, she gives me suggestions that I can do at home. I think he labels all strong odors (whether good or bad) as stinky. We live close to a bread factory and a bean factory (we've toured the bread factory on a homeschool field trip), and every now and then we get this strong smell of something burning. I don't know which factory it is, but he always smells it before I do. Loriann

Guest guest
When Stossel interviewed Offit, He held 13 or so studies showing thimerosal does not cause cancer, I have never heard of these studies or seen these studies. Was Offit holding toxicology studies that were done (becaue they can not say thimerosal is safe) and just coming to the conclussion it doesnt cause Autism? Offit did say it doesnt cause Autism, But were not sure about what could happen.(something to that effect) All I can say is, you can tell Thimerosal Court Date is approaching! Guest guest
When Stossel interviewed Offit, He held 13 or so studies showing thimerosal does not cause cancer, I mean Autism, Thats what I get for writing when I first wake up! I also wonder wonder why ABC didnt show children in the ICU units convulsing from adverse reaction to vaccines. (I know there are children who land up in the ICU from severe seizures because of vaccines)Yet they show children coughing. Most of the kids were probably vaccinated. I know my son had all his vaccines and he landed up with croup/whopping cough that lasted about a month! My heart goes out to those who have severely injured children from vaccines. One thing I have learned from my studying vaccines, Pharma is very powerful and wicked! Guest guest
Yeah, this is bull & *%$. First of all, *I* was never vaccinated with any anti-meningitis vaccines (they didn't have them back in ye olde 60's, when I was born), and I didn't come to harm. Not to mention that being vaccinated doesn't mean your child is immune from illness. I was thinking about this the other day: I think that's what some of the hullaballoo about vaccines is: it taps into that parental desire to be able to protect your child completely. Parents of vaccinated kids think they've made their kids " safe. " But just read " Parents " magazine (look, I'm picking up on another thread!) or " Readers Digest " and you will soon learn of all the terrible things kids can still get and die from. When you see writing like this crap, you've just got to write a letter to the editor, and keep doing it. It worked for the feminists and other groups who were routinely treated like crap in the media. Even if it doesn't make it to print, some editor has looked at it, and maybe learned to think a little. -angie On Saturday, February 24, 2007, at 11:11 AM, alasich wrote: > " Parent Suzanne Walther agrees. Guest guest
I did see the 20/20 special on Mannatech and ambrosia. I really felt for the girl with the brain cancer and when she learned that after taking it I did not do anything for it. I also was very shocked at what the undercover cameras found and the nasty email that girl got from Mannatech that told her to stop talking to the news people. Then when I also saw the list of " issues " that they were told to target and saw Down Syndrome and Autism, I nearly fell off my couch. I believe that vitamins will help but it made me think twice about where I get them. Guest guest
Re Mannetech - the folks promoting it have to get their talking points from somewhere. Over the years I have been approached by at least four people, who after they found out I had a child with DS, urged me to try the product (which of course they were selling) citing studies that showed it even changed facial features. (I talked them under the table by quoting the metabolic systems that are out of whack in DS.) Really not a smart thing to send your sales people out with little knowledge of biochemistry.
