Now this is the situation...a dear (24 yr. old) friend has a learning disability. She had an IEP all through school. OK now on her job she is a bit slow doing certain tasks and someone over her reamed her out in front of everybody, calling her names etc..... went to the supervisor over her and he kind of swept it under the carpet. Now could go to another supervisor and complain and what I'm wondering is if she has any weight with 504? language that was used should be against any company policy (but isn't there) and really shouldn't be used with folks with any disabilities. The task she was assigned was done and done correctly, just took her a bit longer to get there. Thanks for any info and how can I help her Kathy mom to Sara 10............ is like my second.... nope 4th daughter heehee and she named her new baby after my Sara ahhhh another Sara
Guest guest
504 is a civil right protection against discrimination that is available for everyone, no matter what age. In order to activate those rights, discrimination must occur. On the job, a person with a disability would usually disclose their disability and need for accommodations at the time of the job offer. And an employer is required to make reasonable accommodations on the job site. I would make my request in writing to all the management personnel involved if I were turned down by one manager that may not be aware of the law.
