Guest guest
LEAGUE PRESENTATION ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES What are " 708 Boards? " The answer, tax-supported Community Mental Health Boards, will be the focus of an open-to-the-public meeting on Monday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Geneva Public Library. The meeting is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County. Local citizens are urged to attend to learn how a portion of their tax money is being spent. Community Mental Health Boards (sometimes called a 708 board in reference to its creating authority) are established by communities, municipalities or townships to plan and fund mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse services. This year in our area they will disburse nearly $2 million from property taxes for mental health and related services provided by non-profit agencies in their respective areas. The featured speaker on November 14 will be Jerry , Executive Director of INC Board, a formal partnership of 708 boards in Aurora , Batavia , Big Rock, Blackberry, Kaneville, Sugar Grove and Virgil Townships . These seven townships pool their mental health tax levies of approximately $1.6 million a year and fund programs operated by 22 different agencies and organizations. Last year INC funds provided services to over 17,000 residents of south Kane County . Geneva and St. have also passed property tax levies for mental health services pursuant to the Illinois Community Mental Health Act. Geneva spends about $140,000 per year, St. twice that.
