Without participation like yours today, we could not do what we do! Securing Congressman Cantor's leadership on this initiative is key. We need his help to guide this measure swiftly through Congress so that it can be reauthorized by September 30th. To do that we must keep the pressure on and you can do that by doing two more things quickly: 1) Call Leader Cantor's office (yes again, even if you already have) at 202.225.4000 and say " I am calling to ask Leader Cantor to move HR 2005, The Combating Autism Reauthorization Act to the House Floor for a vote as it was originally introduced. I accept no substitute or alteration to the original bill. Thank you. " 2) Ask your friends and family to help you - no matter where they live in the country by spreading the word through an email to them or by posting something like this on your Facebook page: " House Leader Cantor's support for the Combating Autism Reauthorization Act is critical to secure $693M in autism research & treatment money. Please call him at 202.225.4000 and say " Move HR 2005 to the House Floor for a vote AS IS! Thanks " then follow up by sending an email on this link below. Write DONE to let me know you helped! The Government Relations Team Autism Votes An initiative of Autism Speaks Your message was sent to: Representative Cantor I am a member of the RJC, and the father of a son with Autism. I understand that you, Majority Leader Cantor, have the ability to call the Combating Autism Reauthorization Act of 2011, HR 2005, to the House Floor for a vote. If this critical legislation is not renewed before September 30th as originally introduced, essential provisions of the original law will expire. I am writing today to ask you to do just that. Bring HR 2005 to the House Floor for a vote as it stands now without amendment. A simple extension of the sunset provision will not do the trick and amounts to you, Leader Cantor, abandoning the autism community. Congressman Cantor, you cosponsored the original legislation in 2006 which was passed by a Republican led voice vote. Congressman Cantor, you are also a member of the Congressional Autism Coalition for Research & Education. HR 2005 was introduced in May with bipartisan support in the House and has a companion bill in the Senate (S 1094) which also has strong bipartisan support. It is a budget neutral bill according to the Congressional Budget Office. Our community is simply asking that the Congress maintain dedicated research funding for autism at current levels. With 1 in 110 children minimum being diagnosed nationwide we cannot afford to lose momentum. In addition to losing precious research dollars, this bill seeks to provide funding for the Autism Treatment Network which treats thousands of people with autism across the country and is developing very badly needed standardized protocols for medical care. Thank you for your swift attention to this matter. I hope to hear back from you shortly. Sincerely, Rubin 1110 West Lake Cook Road 165 BUFFALO GROVE, IL 60089-1944
