My son is 3 years old and non-verbal and we have been thinking about purchasing an ipad when we can afford it. Your story helped make my decision. I’m a mother of 4 year old autistic twins; one being a little more verbal than the other. I shared your link on my Facebook, along with other postings educating people about autism. Thanks for your work, you inspire me. > > > Reply > Liz UlmApril 17, 2011 at 8:49 am # > I have an autistic 9 year old son. He is verbal but has a hard time putting his thoughts into words and has problems with language skills. I am very interested in how an ipad can help him. Any response would be great. > > > Reply > Pam August 3, 2011 at 11:44 am # > I work with an autistic boy who is also 9 years old. He is verbal, but has difficulty with comprehension and appropriate conversation. I use two apps specifically for this and they are Conversation Builder and Sentence Builder. The conversation builder lets him choose the correct response and then he records his own voice. At the end he can play the entire conversation back. He loves the iPad and I am seeing progress. I am a Special Ed teacher that works one on one with special needs students. > > > Reply > SheilaMay 10, 2011 at 12:48 pm # > Thank you for the great info and opportunity for families to apply for a chance to receive an ipad. I am just starting my journey researching using an ipad or an itouch for my daughter. It brings tears to my eyes to know that we might be able to find a way for her to communicate her thoughts. I long for the day she can tell us what she did at school when I pick her up. We are waiting for a diagnosis of verbal apraxia but I have to wait for our next appointment with the developmental ped. I know at this time we can’t afford to buy one since I am unemployed but once we get a diagnosis I am going to look for ways to raise some funds. I have already sold alot of my daughters clothes and toys to raise money for speech therapy > > > Reply > shakeela zaheerJune 10, 2011 at 10:06 am # > Thank you for the great info and opportunity for families to apply for a chance to receive an ipad. My son is 9 years old and has not said a word since he was 2 years old. I can’t wait for the day to hear him say “I love you mommy†using some kind of communication device. I just mailed in the application yesterday and can’t wait to hear of the children you are helping! Thank you again!! > > > Reply > DoescherJuly 9, 2011 at 1:36 pm # > You are doing a wonderful thing here! > > > Reply > BlueAugust 7, 2011 at 5:18 pm # > God bless this amazing organization and all the wonderful people and donors involved with it. > I have a 15 yr. old son who has autism and is compleatly non-verbal.. The associated apraxia has not only robbed him of his ability to speek , it effects ALL of his muscles which leave him without the ability to use sign language or a computer mouse and keyboard . His total and complete inability to express any form of communication at all, leaves us both devestated. > > I recently became aware of an android application for the ipad called †Tap To Talk †. It brings up pictures that when touched ,literally do the talking for you. This application , along with the ipads ability to respond with only a slight touch, would allow my son to express his wants and needs for hundreds of items ! > > IF our application would be approved AND there would be an ipad available for him, it would truly be an answer to our prayers. Thank you so much for providing a chance for such a wonderful opportunity. > > > Reply > Ashle PetesAugust 16, 2011 at 4:42 pm # > My 2yr old son is non verbal and he has been diagnosis with autism.
