The Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS)

HFS will hold its first public meeting on 10/13 at 10am

@ 100 W Randolph St, Chicago Illinois 60601 .. . .. . in the JRTC

auditorium. HFS will present in a high level overview its proposal for

implementing the first phase of the care coordination mandate--which was part of

the Medicaid reform law. HFS plans to ensure that there is opportunity to

solicit feedback and answer questions from the audience at this meeting.

Why is this Important?

Coordinated Care will impact many children with

disabilities, who are enrolled in “regular Medicaidâ€, after 2014, it will

impact non-SSI recipient adults with disabilities who will be able to enroll in

Medicaid for the first time.

Illinois Law:

“The new Medicaid reform law states that Illinois must

enroll 50% of the Medicaid population in “care coordination†by January 1,

2015. This means at least 1.5 million of our Medicaid clients–children,

parents, seniors and disabled persons–will be assigned to an integrated

healthcare Delivery system replacing the current fee--â€for--â€service

fragmented system. Under the Affordable Care Act, as of January 1, 2014, about

700,000 Illinoisans currently without health Insurance will be eligible for

Medicaid for the first time; it is expected that all of these new applicants

will be enrolled with care coordination entities.â€

Comments regarding Governor Quinn's proposal to close

seven State institutions:

Closing state facilities may be good for area

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

By

svreporter@...

" Gov. Pat Quinn’s plan to close state facilities may

actually benefit the people who live there, according to spokesmen of

organizations that provide services for people with developmental disabilities

in North Central Illinois.

Quinn recently announced his intention to shutter seven

state facilities, including two correctional centers and five that provide

services to people with developmental disabilities or mental illnesses in Tinley

Park, Dixon, Rockford, villeand Chester. The closures of those five

facilities are expected to save the state $32.7 million, according to figures

provided The Associated Press.

Closing those facilities doesn’t mean the state would

stop paying for services for the people who reside there, however. Residents

would be moved to other state-run facilities or could be moved to

community-based service organizations, such Horizon House in Peruor Gateway

Services in Princeton. And that could be good for clients and the state’s

bottom line — if done properly.â€
