two programs need volunteers--skiing and fitness!

We all know that the support of trained volunteers is key to providing quality

programs; here are two opportunities to get involved in November:

1. Please see the note below for information about the upcoming trainings

for ski volunteers.

2. And, if fitness is of interest, the Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies

program is also offering a training. That information is attached to this

message.

Dear Volunteers,

We are thrilled with your interest in volunteering for the Greater Chicago Area

Adaptive Ski & Ride Program this winter. This Program provides opportunities

for physically challenged children, adults, and veterans to experience and

advance in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, and snowboarding throughout the

Midwest. The Program is a partnership between Adaptive Adventures and Great

Lakes Adaptive Sports (GLASA) in collaboration with RIC Sports and Wilmot

Mountain. Volunteers are essential to the success of this Program.

Volunteers are the key to the success and capacity of the program. We are

requesting that all potential volunteers attend at least one “Dry Land” training

session and one “On Hill” training session to be able to participate this

winter. If you have a strong interest and cannot attend one of these sessions,

please contact us to discuss other options for your participation. We will have

several different classifications of volunteers based on previous experience and

knowledge in the sport as well as working with people with disabilities.

Previous experience in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, and snowboarding are

important assets to our program.

To kick off the season, Dry Land training sessions will be held at the

Scandinavian Ski Shop, 1621 Waukegan Road, Glenview IL 60025. These sessions

will be held on Wednesday, November 2th and Tuesday, November 29th from 6:30pm

to 8:30pm. Sessions will focus on general information about our organizations,

program philosophy, volunteer responsibilities, adaptive equipment, disability

awareness, participant assessment, and other topics as appropriate.

On Hill training sessions will be held at Wilmot Mountain, 11931 Fox River Road,

Wilmot WI 53192. The dates and times for these training sessions are Tuesday,

December 13th (11am – 3pm) and Thursday, December 15th. (11am – 3pm and 6pm –

10pm). These sessions will focus on the practical application of the Dry Land

topics, equipment set-up and use, personal skiing skills, and other program

elements.

We look forward to greeting our new and returning volunteers. Working together

we will bring exciting ski experiences to all the disabled participants. Please

refer to www.adaptiveadventures.org for the Volunteer Sign-up Form. It can be

filled out online, or printed and returned via email or at one of the training

sessions. This information is essential for our programs and will not be shared

with anyone.

Please contact us via email as soon as you know which Dry Land and On-Hill

training sessions you will attend. Thank you in advance for helping us to

change lives through sport!

Sincerely,

Joby H. Berman
