Guest guest
Maureen: I agree with Ficker Terrill on all counts. Your life will be easier elsewhere. However, it is remarkable what small groups of people are able to put together with a combination of public and private funds. If you think that the boys have a good chance for quality social interaction and support here, I wouldn't totally discourage you. We had the opportunity to move anywhere in the country, and I chose to stay... If someone needs 24/7 support it shouldn't be too hard to back into some numbers. I am not a numbers person, but most often we hear that the cost of caring for someone who needs a great deal of support, but not including medically fragile, varies between $60,000-$100,000...Your other son would include cost of education with extra help, maybe $40,000/year plus living expenses (maybe $20,000 but probably a little less).... At least while your son was still in school, you might be looking at $125,000-150,000 for the cost of both sons...once your student is out of school, hopefully he would not remain a " cost center " but he would obtain employment and be at least partially self-sufficient... Good luck... Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
