Guest guest
Come 1 Jan 2011, when Walgreens will no longer fill our prescriptions, do we need to visit the MDs again to get new scripts to take to the new pharmacy? or will scripts be automatically transferred? Do we get to choose to which pharmacy these are transferred? Should we fill all we can at the end of Dec to give breathing room in January? Will there be guidelines coming from the state offices on how this will be handled? If not for IPADDUnite, I would never know t In a message dated 11/11/2011 7:27:26 P.M. As I reviewed the comments it appears that there may be some confusion as to which parties are involved in the contract negotiations; I hope this e-mail helps to clarify. This negotiation is specific to Walgreens and Express Scripts and impacts Walgreens nationally. This disruption impacts a large number of people in the Chicagoland area - not just our own Aetna Better Health members. We regret that members need to locate a new pharmacy and we will do everything possible to assist our Aetna Better Health members in this transition. We checked our members' zip codes against other pharmacies in their areas and found that 77.9% of our Aetna Better Health members (who all reside in the suburbs) live within a mile of a non-Walgreens pharmacy in their network. When you make the circle larger, 94% of our members live within two miles of such a pharmacy and 99.8% live within three miles. It is impossible to speculate on the contract issues between the two parties, however it is not uncommon for contract issues to be settled in the 11th hour. Nonetheless, we must prepare for Walgreens no longer being a network provider as of January 1, 2012. I hope that this helps to clarify the issue. As always, if I can be of further assistance please don't hesitate to contact me. Guest guest
Based on our household's experience with mail order pharmacies (which have changed whenever our health insurance company changes), the answer has been yes, you need a new prescription. For in-person pharmacies (not mail order), the answer has been no. The new pharmacy was willing to call the old one and get the prescription transferred. Ask the new pharmacy. -Gail ________________________________ From: " lyoakam@...
