Planning for Children with Disabilities Presented by: Rubin, J.D. and Sherri Schneider, QSP Saturday September 24th, 2011 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. At Ray Graham Association’s Hanson Center 15W431 59th Street Burr Ridge, IL 60527  Sherri Schneider is President of Family Benefit Solutions. For over 30 years Sherrie, mother of a son with special needs has been working tirelessly dedicating her time to helping individuals with special needs and their families. Her career began as a Social Worker in a CILA group home where she helped those with developmental disabilities and mental illness acquire public benefits they so desperately needed including SSI, Medicaid and food stamps. Sherri is a faculty member of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. She now meets privately with families to thoroughly assess their individual situation and pursue the appropriate benefit assistance program(s) personally guiding them through the application process. Based on her vast experience, she has skillfully established and maintained open, productive relationships with government agencies involved in the decision-making process. Professionals and family groups find her in-service expertise to be invaluable as they navigate the government benefit arena. Rubin is an attorney who has been in private practice since 1977. He is also the parent of three children, one of whom has autism. Since his own son with special needs was one year old in 1982, his law practice has been limited to serving his fellow families of children and adults with special needs. is the immediate past chair of the State of Illinois, Department of Human Service, State-wide advisory council on developmental disabilities; Co-Chair of the State of Illinois, Department of Human Services, Autism Task Force: a member of the State of Illinois Disabilities Services Advisory Committee. also serves as current President of the ARC of Illinois. He is on the Board of Directors of Clearbrook, PACT Inc., Special Leisure Services Foundation. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Special Needs Alliance, the national, non-profit, membership by invitation, organization of attorneys in every state. serves on the Special Needs Law Section Steering Committee of the National Academy of Elder Law and is faculty for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. is also a charter member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners.
