Guest guest
HI, I think this is one for our experts, whose advice is much appreciated. My husband is filling out the annual SSA Representative Payee Report and doesn't remember how he's answered one question in the past. Never had any problems to date. One question is -- " Did you (the payee) decide how the $10,023 was spent or saved? If NO, please explain in 'remarks' on the back of this form. " Our accurate answer would be 'Yes.' Is that also the 'correct' answere that SSA is looking for? Thanks in advance. Bonnie Dohogne
Guest guest
Since he is the payee, he is responsible for how the $ is spent. Guest guest
Bonnie, I haven't had to do the rep payee accting yet, but if I remember right from last year, I had answered yes & no. Though I'm the one spending the money on , he gets to decide most of the time what he wants to do with it. If he wants to play video games, go out to eat, buy clothes, I usually let him do it. However, he'd play video games every day if I let him, or buy some things he doesn't need. Anyway, I was questioned about it & gave the lady the reasoning. She wasn't real happy about my answer. Let's just say this year, I'm answering YES. Liz > One question is -- > " Did you (the payee) decide how the $10,023 was spent or saved? If NO, please > explain in 'remarks' on the back of this form. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie the reason for her displeasure is if a rep payee is named it is to protect the sSI recipient from wasting/ misspending his funds. You definitely should answer yes next time. Guest guest
Thanks to all for your input. I think " less is better " in terms of providing detailed info to SSA. Our son, too, has some discretion with spending money but it's doled out by the rep. payee, so " Yes " is truthful. Guest guest
Let me just say one thing ALWAYS copy EVERYTHING so next time you know what you sent in. I learned long ago it makes things so much easier to look back and see what I put down last time on forms as you will be asked things over and over.
