The State of Illinois Budget and Updates on Disability Issues!

Family Support Network Members and Friends:

It is imperative that we get involved. Our voices must

be heard! These budget issues are not going away. Due to the lack of adequate

funding:“The Governor is proposing the closing of seven state facilities. Two

of those are state institutions for people with developmental disabilities:

Mabley in Dixon and ville. Three mental health facilities will close:

Singer, Chester and Tinley Park. In addition two prisons will be closed. 1,900

state employees will be laid off, including 1,400 in the Dept. of Human

Services.â€

Advocacy:

If you are frustrated over the lack of programs and

funding to support your family member with disabilities and you have not taken

action to educate your legislators you have no one to blame but yourself. Please

contact the Family Support Network. We will give you the information you need to

feel confident. We can tell you who your legislator is. We can give you facts.

We can give you figures. Please help. We need you. For more information visit

Affordable Care Act (ACA):

“President Obama signed the ACA into law in March

2010 and is often called national health care reform. This legislation

dramatically expands health care coverage to uninsured and under-insured

Americans. It also provides much needed protections and other positive changes

to all the programs that make up the US health care system including Medicare,

Medicaid, and individual and group insurance.â€

You should care because: Implementation and state-level

planning of the Affordable Care Act is now underway. You don’t want to miss

their impact on children with special needs and their families.
