Due to the lack of adequate funding:“The Governor is proposing the closing of seven state facilities. Two of those are state institutions for people with developmental disabilities: Mabley in Dixon and ville. Three mental health facilities will close: Singer, Chester and Tinley Park. In addition two prisons will be closed. 1,900 state employees will be laid off, including 1,400 in the Dept. of Human Services.†Advocacy: If you are frustrated over the lack of programs and funding to support your family member with disabilities and you have not taken action to educate your legislators you have no one to blame but yourself. Please contact the Family Support Network. We will give you the information you need to feel confident. We can tell you who your legislator is. We can give you facts. We can give you figures.
