with a PASS Agency? If so, which one? Is there funding out there for autistic

children - perhaps the Children's Waiver - and how does she go about applying?

Is there an IPADD group for parents with children under the age of 21?

Diane, I don't know how they do things now, but when my daughter was in

'distress', I contacted the local PASS agency and told them of my plight. This

was pre children's waiver (it was a different fund back then). The pass agency

coordinator can then put the child on the PUNS list and apply for the Children's

Waiver. I believe the PASS agencies are according to region so I have no idea

where Palatine residents go.

Hi Diane,

I have a 16-year old boy with autism. Your cousin should absolutely contact

Community Alternatives Unlimited, the PAS agency in her county. We have the

children's waiver, and it has helped tremendously. There will be other services

and information the PAS agency can bring to the table as well, in addition to

the waiver.

I co-lead the Crystal Lake TACA chapter. We are parents of children with autism

who volunteer to help other parents of children with autism. I'd like to invite

you or your cousin to contact me off line; I'd be happy to talk to you about how

TACA helps families. You can get lots of information on our website as well

www.tacanow.org. We hold monthly meetings and coffee talks in the Crystal Lake

area. Here is where you can find the dates, location, etc. for our TACA events:

http://www.tacanow.org/local-chapters/midwest/illinois/crystal-lake/

We have dealt with some pretty rough behavior with my son — self injury and

aggression, etc. There is a lot parents can do to help their children — dietary

intervention, biomedical intervention, therapies, behavioral intervention,

educational programming. TACA helps families get connected to information and

resources. And we are also here to support. With one in 91 kids being diagnosed

with autism, no one should walk this journey alone.
