Guest guest
Jama, Yours is a textbook example of how well the process CAN work when all the pieces of the puzzle are in place. Our experiences with the Aurora SSA office have been positive, too. Our only delay was the high school was dragging it's feet with a response. I believe that your success is because your paperwork was in excellent condition and SSA received prompt responses from whomever they contacted. Congrats on a job well done! > > After all I have heard about the the application process for SSI, I was not looking forward to it. My son turned 18 in August so I called the Woodridge SS office in September to get the ball rolling. I had a phone interview a few days later on September 21. They needed some additional information which I dropped off a couple days later. Yesterday, to my surprise, our first check for the full amount of $674 arrived in my mailbox! It was less than 2 weeks from start to finish. Am I an exception to the rule or have they streamlined the process? > ~Jama >
Guest guest
When the local office " approves " a case it is called a PD (presumptive disability) decision. They still need to send the paperwork to DDS in Springfield where Social Security's doctors will review the medical records to ensure they meet Social Security's definition of disability. Then DDS will send the case back to the field office with an official medical approval.  Local offices can PD cases if they feel that they have enough medical records to begin payments to the claimant. In 30 years, I have only seen 1 case that was approved as a PD NOT become an official approval.  ________________________________ From: Diane S. <swedegrl@...> IPADDUnite Sent: Sunday, October 9, 2011 6:56 PM Subject: Re: SSI Success Story  The Woodridge office is where we went also, and I will say Ms was wonderful, and we were approved on the spot b/c we came with the necessary paperworks and I had sit down with me and after 10 minutes she said I can approve you today. I have heard horror stories about other offices, whether that is true or not I do not know. I know it was a year ago that my son turned 18, and I know I was a wreck in general. it is almost cruel that the yound adult turns 18 usually in the same year as completing 12th grade. And then families have yet more stressful stuff to deal with- Transition stuff, to go along with all the legal stuff to deal with too. Not to mention working a job/career and taking care of the day to day needs you always for your young adult in general, and often a whole family of others as well. I did not have a spouse that was able to help with any of it, and I work full time. I know for me I almost didn't make it! Glad yor experiences so far have been smooth!
