Jeff -

I highly recommend  pediatric neurologist Dr. Tonsgard from University of

Chicago.  (sorry, not the north location you were looking for)

Donna

doctor, probably neuro

Hi Group,

My almost-10 year old is exhibiting some unusual behavior. I don't think it is

seizure as he remains active and response while it is going on, but he is

tensing up to the point of amazing looking anxiety, hands clenched and a stiff,

pained looked on his face. These sessions can last for 10 minutes or 2 hours.

He is non-verbal low-functioning child who is generally incredibly oral and

mostly well behaved, if not a bit of a mischief maker.

I am looking for a doctor (Aetna POS, Medicaid waiver) to observe him. I have

actually used my phone to tape my son during these moments.

Any suggestions on doctors, particularly north/northwest, would be appreciated.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Seizures can look very different and an EEG can show you if that's what it is.

If your regular doctor can't suggest a neurologist try Children's Memorial, they

take medicaid.

Hi Jeff:

Noah had some similar odd affectations at around the same age. His psychiatrist

described these as " tics. " They eventually went away, though occasionally he

has some similar events.

There is a neurologist in Lake Forest, Dr. Metrick, 847-482-0300. Autism

and I/DD's are not his specialty, but, he is a parent and he is knowledgeable

and compassionate.

I see from other postings that there appear to be some other really great

recommendations. Good luck and please let us know what happens.
