Guest guest
My son recently turned 18. He's presently in the childrens waiver program. I understand he can remain there until he's 22. What are the pro's and con's for staying with the childrens vs. switching to the adult waiver? I'm trying to decide if it would benefit us to make the change now. I need some input to help me make this decision. Thanks, Jama
Guest guest
I kept my daughter on the children's waiver until she was 22. I understand if you go on the adult waiver, you can qualify to be your child's support worker. But with the children's waiver, funds that you don't use one month can be used for a future month (this just went into affect AFTER my daughter aged out). So, if you need more funding for summer programs, the children's waiver may be a better option. > > My son recently turned 18. He's presently in the childrens waiver program. Guest guest
Hi Jama, It really depends on your needs and how you use it because the amount is the same as long as he is in school. The adult waiver allows you or a family member to be a PSW. The children's waiver allows a " rollover " of hours so that you can use more hours say when they are out of school or when you need them the most. PACT (if you're in Dupage) or your service provider may be able to help you with other ways to make best use of the funds according to his IPP (goals) In my experience though they don't tell you what you don't ask.
