Guest guest
Ellen I forwarded a bunch of information I received from the organization recently. It took me over a year to connect but I finally found the right group. I am still in the process of trying to see if this will work for my son. It sounds like a wonderful program though. Here's their website. www. bestbuddiesillinois .org companions, best buddies...  Hi all: I have been asked by someone who is part of a young man's Microboard about Best Buddies and any other organizations that link people with I/DD with companions. I am not aware of any such organizations in the northern suburbs, where this young man resides. Is there something of which I am unaware? Thanks. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... Guest guest
Ellen, the Best Buddies office is in Chicago - just contact them for information about making a match. There isn't a specific place to go once your kids are out of the school system. For instance, GBN has a Best Buddies chapter. But, you have to be in school there to be part of it. 's Buddy match was made through the Chicago office. She is paired with a young lawyer who lives in the suburbs and spends 2 Friday evenings a month with her going out to dinner, seeing movies, etc. They come up with the times, dates and plans of what to do. This is the citizens program. One can also have an " e-buddy " - someone you have contact with by email. Best Buddies has " rules " for who can participate for both the Buddy and the Buddy companion. This is a screening process to make sure that everything is on the up and up, safe and that the pair understand that this is a commitment to be honored. Hope that helps. has LOVED this organization and has been active for many years now. Kathy companions, best buddies...
