Hello!

I am excited to introduce Functional Sign Language, our new functional sign

language system specifically developed to support individuals with developmental

disabilities who struggle with communication. This is a proven system that is a

great addition to any program using or seeking total communication supports.

Here are a few highlights of the book:

* It is a visual tool with images that are appropriate for all age groups

(other tools for teaching basic sign language are geared toward young children -

our book is appropriate for older children and adults).

* It is bound in a sturdy 3-ring binder with high quality lamination (sealed

edges, rounded corners) to allow for flexibility with teaching, repeated use,

and cleaning - it is intended to be in the hands of the individuals using it.

* Most sign language tools are in dictionary format while this book is more

user-friendly. We accomplished this by reducing visual stimuli and targeting

only one word/sign per page - this allows for better focus and retention. In

addition, the format allows users to adjust/add/remove pages to allow

individuals to target specific words/signs.

* In addition to 25 functional signs, Functional Sign Language includes

teaching tips and a reference guide that teaches individuals how to perform each

sign in the book - this allows people who are not proficient in sign language to

learn and teach functional use to students/clients.

* As a special offer, you will receive a free CD version of the book with all

book purchases! The CD allows organizations to reproduce the content of the

book at the site/location for which it was purchased. I would also recommend

that copies be provided to families so that the skills can be reinforced at

home.

graphic artist, Diane Kaz, to improve the images and develop a more consistent,

higher quality product. Practical Approaches Consulting will no longer provide

the old format. However, you have the electronic version and you are welcome to

reproduce them on your own.
