Regular moms versus special needs moms - part two

Last year we put out Regular Moms vs Special Needs Moms, a humorous look

at how different our lives have become raising children with disabilities. We

opened it up to our readers to add their own and you did not disappoint. These

responses were more thoughtful than our light-hearted original and reflect a

little slice of our lives.

Here are personal insights from fellow special needs parents. Please

continue to send us your responses and we'll add to the list!

Find a friend program at One Place for Special Needs

One Place for Special Needs has created the Find a friend program to help

you find meaningful friendships for your child. You can fill out a family

profile on our site that includes your child's birth year, gender, diagnosis and

special interests.

In our Community section click on Find friends. You can search for

families in your neighborhood by gender, age or keyword search of your child's

interest. Contact families through our secure mail system to see if your

children might be a match. You can include siblings. There is no age limit.

Teens and adults with disabilities are welcome too.

With summer coming, it's the perfect time to look for social opportunities

for your child. Please tell your support groups and online forums about this

great program. The more people who register with their info in your area, the

more chances to find a matching friend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Find tutors, summer therapy and more

I've been busy contacting organizations and professionals to add their

summer programs in our directories. Teachers who are looking for work over the

summer, please add your info too for families!

Check out both our Local resource and Event directory for resources in

your area. I'm sorry that we are not in every state yet. Please help us get the

word out. Our top 10 states with info include CA, FL, IL, MA, MI, NJ, NY, OH,

PA and TX.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Give a cheer for Atypical Moms!

You're more than the average mom. Let everyone know it!

Our Atypical Mom shirts, sweatshirts, framed pictures and mugs are the

perfect gift for all the special needs moms who go way beyond normal parenting

expectations (See our Atypical kid, teen and dad items too).

Find these and other products that highlight qualities and personality

rather than disability labels at our Awareness with Attitude CafePress page.
