Regular moms versus special needs moms - part two Last year we put out Regular Moms vs Special Needs Moms, a humorous look at how different our lives have become raising children with disabilities. We opened it up to our readers to add their own and you did not disappoint. These responses were more thoughtful than our light-hearted original and reflect a little slice of our lives. Here are personal insights from fellow special needs parents. Please continue to send us your responses and we'll add to the list! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Find a friend program at One Place for Special Needs One Place for Special Needs has created the Find a friend program to help you find meaningful friendships for your child. You can fill out a family profile on our site that includes your child's birth year, gender, diagnosis and special interests. In our Community section click on Find friends. You can search for families in your neighborhood by gender, age or keyword search of your child's interest. Contact families through our secure mail system to see if your children might be a match. You can include siblings. There is no age limit. Teens and adults with disabilities are welcome too. With summer coming, it's the perfect time to look for social opportunities for your child. Please tell your support groups and online forums about this great program. The more people who register with their info in your area, the more chances to find a matching friend. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Find tutors, summer therapy and more I've been busy contacting organizations and professionals to add their summer programs in our directories. Teachers who are looking for work over the summer, please add your info too for families! Check out both our Local resource and Event directory for resources in your area. I'm sorry that we are not in every state yet. Please help us get the word out.
