IAMC Learning Opportunities

In addition to information sessions on, and technical assistance for

developing Microboards and atives, we provide workshops on a growing

list of topics that support creative community-based alternatives for a

better quality of life for people with disabilities

Building Community: Social Networks,

Natural Supports and Belonging

Traditionally, people with disabilities have lived and worked in places

disconnected from their home communities. Pressures and responsibilities of

family members have created a disconnect for them as well. This session

helps us take the first step to engagement with the community, and utilizing

the power of neighborhoods to promote reciprocal connections, relationships

and contribution for individuals with disabilities who desire true community

inclusion.

Person Centered Planning in Action: Making the Most of

Home-based Waiver or Personal Assistance Funding.

This presentation outlines ways to enhance someone's quality of life while

connecting with community in ordinary ways. This workshop has been offered

in combination with Craig on of ACES$ and opportunities to learn

updates about the payroll process and have questions answered.

Customized Employment and Self Employment:

Join us in Presuming Employment for All!

This session breaks down the components necessary for employment starting

with Discovery, Determining what kind of work structure fits you best and

principles of entrepreneurship for individuals with disabilities. You'll

also gain a keener eye for determining unmet need, writing a business plan

and other important factors as you take the next steps toward contribution,

dignity and income in the world of employment.

The Nuts and Bolts of Self-Employment

People with disabilities are finding self-employment not only viable, but a

desirable alternative to traditional work. Learn more about the

possibilities, challenges, and steps for starting a small business to

enhance life, community inclusion and a bank account!

Creative Housing Options

One of the pillars of " living the dream " is a home of your own! People with

disabilities want the very same thing and it can be done. This presentation

will address some of the questions one must consider in " thinking outside

the box " to receive support in living in their own home and enjoying a

quality life filled with family, work, recreation and entertainment. While

not an all-inclusive checklist, this presentation will facilitate the

beginning process and motivate you to determine the route you may want to

take on this journey.

Planning Alternatives Tomorrow with Hope:

Learn about the PATH processes for individuals with disabilities or for

Human Service atives, and why person-centered planning is at the heart

of a better quality of life. This session not only helps you understand the

steps of the process, but how it has impacted lives and organizations.

Supporting People with Complex Communication Needs

Towards Greater Self Determination and Expression

Person Centered Planning in Action! With an emphasis on relationships,

community and dignity, this presentation will help learners enhance their

understanding of how to be an effective communication partner.

Hiring the Ideal Personal Support Worker

Learn the optimal ways to recruit, hire, train and manage personal support

workers. Gain the wisdom from two parents who have experienced trials and

successes and leave with ideas and plans that can work for you.

These workshops can be made available online or in-person. For more

A life changed for the better is practice based evidence.

The Illinois Association of Microboards and atives is intended for

those who want to explore possibilities of alternative services for

themselves or their loved ones. The project assists persons with

disabilities and their families and friends to create non-profit

corporations that allow them to live self-directed lives through the use of

person-centered planning, community supports and resource management.
