Guest guest
In case this is helpful to anyone, here’s what I emailed my state legislator today regarding the facility closures: Tom, Wow! This news is lighting up our local disability community and making us smile!! Two State Operated Developmental Centers slated to close!! The Governor’s Factsheet on this, however, does mention his intention to seek Supplement Appropriations during Veto Session to help soften the blow, so to speak, and we sincerely hope you will stand your ground! This is a meaningful move toward rebalancing the state’s inexplicable reliance on expensive institutional care that FEW want and that the state can’t afford anyway. Here are the particulars I saw today. Thanks for your continuing leadership on this issue!!!!! Laurie P.S. If my math is correct, this works out to $142, 350/year per resident at ville, and $117,580/year per resident at Mabley. What an inefficient use of limited resources! DHS - Division of Developmental Disabilities Closures: ville Developmental Center ville, IL Residents: 196 Staff (actual): 420 Annualized Operational Cost: approximately $27.9 million Jack Mabley Developmental Center Dixon, Illinois Residents: 91 Staff (actual): 163 Annualized Operational Cost: approximately $10.7 million Savings in FY12: $14.6 million
