Looking for work

Hello to the group lee O'Shea here,

Happy new year to Everyone. Have been away for 4 weeks now completed my

offshore course. Few a weight off my shoulders, am now fully qualifed to

work in the offshore world. The question i pose to the group is can anybody

now point to me some good directions for agencies who will employ me almost

straight away as I'm at the end of a phone waiting to start (remember im a

rookie). Also i would be more than happy to be a relief for anybody unable

to work as this would be a back door in. Please Email me as im at home just

waiting and very eager to start.

Thanks kind regards Lee O'Shea leeoshea1000@...

If its any consolation Im in the same boat as you.Im a staff nurse since 1989,

worked in Saudi for 6and a half years with some remote work. I self funded

through the oil rig medics course and am now looking for work. Have you thought

about trying such firms as Frontier Medical (01594 545125 ). They employ people

at various times I believe all over the world. Also have you thought of Aberdeen

Industrial Doctors 01224-624314 (and ask for Fran Dey)

If I can help any further drop me a line. Though as I say Im doing the rounds

like you. At present am doing agency work in my local A and E dept.

Thanx for the reply Dave. I know its hard to get employed as the agencies

like experience. Which is funny as you have to be a rookie at some time

before obtaining exp. Well thanx for the contacts will let you know if

anything good comes my way.

Lee,

You have come up against the catch 22 situation that all remote medics come

up against... In order to get a job offshore the agencies want you to have

experience. However it is impossible to get that experience until you have

had a job offshore.

The off shore world is constantly changing (Abermed have merged with AID for

instance). All I can say is get as many CVs out there as you can don't just

limit yourself to medics agencies as general agencies get quite a lot of

jobs as well. Keep in touch with the agencies by phone on a regular basis

keep asking them to review your CV as it may keep it towards the top of the

pile.

Ensure that your home phone number is prominent on your CV and that you have

an answer phone that you can check whilst you are out (make a point of

checking it frequently). Also ensure that your mobile number is equally as

prominent, keep it charged, with you and switched on.

If you are intending to work in a hospital and you will be unable to have a

mobile switched on it may be worth investing in a pager, again ensure that

the number is prominent and referenced in both answer phone messages.

Reply to any call / message at once. Many agencies start at the top of a

list and work there way down leaving messages until someone gets back to

them and confirms that they want the job. You snooze you loose! You will

probably get your first job because someone has let them down at short

notice and no one else is willing to go offshore at twelve hours notice.

Think big and go global. There is more out there than just the North Sea.

Good luck with the hunt

Gareth
