The Autism Program of Illinois (TAP) is pleased to announce a publication

entitled Entering Adult Life with Autism: What Families of Teens and Young

Adults Need to Know. It was developed to fill a need for a short document for

families describing the new opportunities and needs for Illinois youth when they

legally become adults at age 18. My son turned 18 last year and these topics are

those I found most important to address. You can find it on TAP's website

http://www.theautismprogram.org under Resources or directly at

http://www.theautismprogram.org/autism-resources/entering-adult-life-with-autism\

/.

I would especially value your input as a parent with a child with a

developmental disability or professional with expertise. Some of you have

already seen this publication and provided me with comments. This publication

is designed to provide substantial information in a format that recognizes the

time limitations faced by parents and professionals. The publication includes

directions to resources allowing families to learn about each of the areas in

more depth, many of these which you will recognize.

We would appreciate hearing your opinions regarding:

• Format

• Information shared—including recommendations for additional topics

• Dissemination

• General suggestions

After we collect feedback, suggestions will be reviewed and changes implemented.

Please send your suggestions to me by Wednesday, August 31st or sooner, via

email to skrein@... or by U.S. mail to the address below. Thank

you so much for your help!

Sincerely,

Sheila Krein, Ph.D.
