Arc Action Alert Urgent

The Arc of Illinois

June 13, 2011

Leaders in The Arc:

Two weeks ago, the Illinois House and Senate sent a budget to the Governor for

his signature. Their budget maintains rates for waiver funded services but

lengthens the payment period for those same services. Their budget also

completely cut funding for critical grant funded disability services including

respite, dental clinics, UIC Family Clinic & Technology Unit and Epilepsy

grants.

Wednesday, the Governor and the four Legislative Leaders will meet to discuss

budget issues still unresolved and restoration of all of the cuts to disability

services needs to be on their agenda.

We have a small window of opportunity to restore the cuts.

We need your advocacy

ACTION

Monday & Tuesday we need for you to call, send an email and fax the Governor and

the Legislative Leaders. Get your friends, co-workers and other advocates to do

this as well.

To be effective, we need to tie up their staff the entire both days to get our

message across!

Do not miss this opportunity!

This could be our last best shot!

Your message:

1. Restore the $15.456 Million in cuts to critical disability serves!

2. Explain how the budget cuts impact you/your loved ones.

3. If community providers are not paid in a timely manner, they cannot

possibly maintain services at levels necessary to meet the needs of the people

they serve!

4. I support the LIFE Campaign which represents the 220,000

thousand infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities and their

families and a member of The Arc!

Below is the contact information on the Governor and the Legislative Leaders and

a letter I faxed to each of them on Monday. You can also fax your own letter or

rewrite my letter as well.

Act now!

Dear Speaker Madigan:

We urgently need your assistance to save critical programs that are scheduled to

be eliminated under the current budget proposal. These programs include:

1. In Home Respite Services $7.166

million

2. Voucher Respite $2.292

million

3. Group Respite $

973 thousand

4. Dental Clinic Grants $1,103

million

5. UIC Family Clinic and Assistive Technology Unit $1.790 million

6. Epilepsy Grants $1.087

million

7. Family Assistance Program $ 890

thousand

8. SIU Telemed Grant $ 155

Total:

$15.456 million

These critical services provide a lifeline for many families throughout Illinois

who have children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

These services need to be fully restored at these levels in the FY 2012 budget.

Sincerely,

Tony auski
