Do you think high cholesterol is bad? Do you think eating saturated fat is

bad? Why do you want to lower your cholesterol level?

In the fine print of a Lipitor ad it states " has not been shown to prevent

heart disease or heart attacks " .

I think there is a LOT of misinformation out there regarding cholesterol.

Dan,

I have heard a lot of this before, but I'm not sure about it. There is always a counter current to "accepted" medicine. I'm going to try staying on the meds for a while though.

All of the other bloodwork was good and showed no signs of the stresses mentioned in those articles. I eat very little in the way of carbs or transfats and I work about fairly regularly. My life is also not very stressful.

Well, this stuff has upped my anxiety a bit. I already don't like taking meds and this didn't help any.

Here is thought it was good news and something was going right and I get this.

I think plain old butter is a lot healthier than chemically extracted and

processed margarines and shortening and have for quite some time strongly

suspected this to another one of those fabricated health scares that have

very little foundation in scientific proof. Why? Because if they have to

include cholesterol warnings in the story line of prime time TV-series, that

means our believing it is worth enough to some vested interests to pay for

that bit of indoctrination. Simple logic. :-)

I use organic butter and organic olive oil.

Inger,

I think margarine tastes better though. Give me a baked potato and I

will absolutely flood it with margarine.

Popcorn too.

:)

Really? I'm surprised. What can taste better than butter? The best chefs in

the world only use real butter and real cream because that is what adds

flavour and richness to every dish. It is also something the human body is

well adapted to eating since thousands of years back.

We are NOT adapted to eating oils produced with pesticides, extracted with

solvents (instead of traditionally cold-pressed) and processed at high

temperatures (which ruins the nutrients and turns it into harmful trans-fats

instead).

But whatever floats your boat, darling. Bon appetite. :-)

Hi, Inger! I have some doubts on whether we should eat what we have been used to, or not. This after I read the book ' Eat Right for Your Type'. In the book authour says type o blood- the first one that existed-should eat the food people those days used to eat because they can manage better certain proteins than other types. But, he says that the other blood types were created BECAUSE people started to be able to eat other foods-do not remember now which were they. But he says that this change in lifestyle, environment, etc, resulted in new food and then new blood type. The same with the following blood type to be created.

Then I started to wonder why one should stick to one diet if-as I remember-it is not proven that o type is the best.

Well, I must confess I read the book looong ago and do not remember the details...if any of you know....

Marilia,

that book has gotten much criticism from professional dietists. It's a cool idea that MIGHT have some grain of truth to it, but I wouldn't take it as gospel. Real life is usually not that simplistic.

My suggestion is that you trust your own intuition and eat what YOU feel is good for YOU.

That's what I do, anyway. Now I am in perfect balance, as opposed to when I was slavishly trying to follow this diet or that (ayur-veda, microbiotics and a host of others that well-meaning people and books kept persuading me to try). I can take inspiration from books like that, but at the end of the day I let my body decide what works for ME.

Hi, Inger! Thanks for yout suggestion, but I do not follow that diet. I bought the book, did it for maybe three days and then got tired of it.

I have tried all the diets that are there...besides the ones you mentioned, macrobiotics, etc, I have also done atkins, south beach, herbalife, have even tried to be a breatharian, the one that people do not eat at all, hehe.

The one I am following right now is not the healthiest but it is the one I find happyness...although my husband and kids and everyone tells me I am nuts.

I have a good breakfast and drink milk, chease, coffe, lots of it...and then, rest of the day only things that make me happy, like chocolate, or other sweets. That is it.

What I was saying about the book is on the theory that people had such blood because they were exposed to certain types of food, and then their blood started to change when they were faced wityh different environment, etc. I believe these things are true, arent´they, I mean, that the first type of bplood that ever existed was the o, then the rest, do not remember in which order.

Thanks anyway for the advice.

Blood types have never been a special interest of mine. Thus I know to little about them to have an opinion one way or the other.

Eating things that make you happy sounds good. :-)

Home  > News  > Chicago Breaking News Settlement opens choices for disabled on

housing

By Black

Tribune reporter

11:59 a.m. CDT, June 15, 2011

A federal judge on Wednesday approved a settlement to a long-running civil case

that will force Illinois to begin moving hundreds of people with developmental

and intellectual disabilities into more community-based homes and apartments of

their choice.

“I firmly believe that the state of Illinois, the citizens, have been

well-served by these efforts,†said U.S. District Judge Holderman, who

congratulated lawyers who have spent months negotiating terms of controversial

case.

“I will issue an order promptly,†he said, noting that he had received only

two

objections out of 21Ö responses filed with the court. “I will announce

informally today that my position is that the consent decree should be approved

and this should be the law that is followed.â€

The settlement in the case filed in 2005 by Stanley Ligasd and other plaintiffs

will change the way the state now pays for their care. Rather than assigning

dollars to “institutions,†the money would follow the individual to the

housing

of their choice. Institutions are defined in the lawsuit as any private,

state-funded facility with nine or more residents.

The goal is to bring Illinois into compliance with the 1990 federal Americans

with Disabilities Act, which requires that people with disabilities be allowed

to live in the “most integrated setting†within their communities.

Under a consent decree supported by both sides in the civil lawsuit, the state

would move at least 3,000 people into community-based settings within the next

six years, expanding opportunities for those at home or in private institutions,

according to the court document.

Ligas, 43, who has Down’s syndrome, will be able to move out of his current

96-bed home at Sheltered Village in Woodstock within 60 days. The state has 90

days to complete its first draft of a transition plan to move hundreds of

non-plaintiffs who are covered under the decree, according to the document.

“I am so happy today,†said Ligas, who planned to celebrate at Jimmy s.

“My

family, too.â€
