Arc Letter to Gov Quinn on DDD Budget Cuts The Arc of Illinois June 1, 2011 Leaders in The Arc: The following letter was sent to Governor Quinn and the Legislative Leaders today. The Honorable Governor Quinn: I realize you have important decisions to make regarding the state budget that has been sent to you. Families who have children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities also have important decisions to make as well. Critical services appear to be eliminated in the budget sitting on your desk. I am asking for clarification on the status of the following grant-funded services because some say they are eliminated and others say they will continued to be funded. Please clarify for me and the 220,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Illinois, the future of these critical services. 1. In Home Respite Services $7,166 million 2. Voucher Respite $2,292 million 3. Group Respite $ 973 thousand 4. Dental Clinic Grants $1,103 million 5. UIC Family Clinic and Assistive Technology Unit $1,790 million 6. Epilepsy Grants $1,087 million 7. Family Assistance Program $ 890 thousand 8. SIU Telemed Grant $ 155 thousand Total $15,456 million These critical services provide a lifeline for many families throughout all of Illinois. Please clarify and support these cost effective and life changing supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their elimination would be a great tragedy.
