Update on National " Natural Supports " Survey

I have had 84 responses, and, since I am pretty sure we will go over the

maximum free responses allowed by Survey Monkey of 100, I went ahead and

bought a one-month enrollment in Survey Monkey - which also allows me to

download information, charts, do crosstabbing, filtering, etc.

However, I am not yet getting the response we need. I really hope for

about 1,000 responses from across the country.

So far, there are a couple of interesting anomalies.

One is that 36% report they can " regularly depend on " family for natural

supports, along with 30% reporting the same about friends, and 29% reporting

the same about " other " (remember, this part of the poll you can check " all

that apply " so that the percentages will add up to way more than 100%),

while, in another question, 68% report " little, " " miniscule and " no support " -

the two sets of figures between the two questions are possibly

contradictory. Any explanations besides folks psychologically not wanting to

insult

their friends/neighbors/relatives, etc.? However, it could be that the 36%

checking " regularly depend on family " are the same folks checking all the

other categories, which WOULD jibe with the rest of the survey.

When all is done, I will be able to do some crosstabing and looking at

individual surveys to see what is happening.

We have had 60 written comments - all of which are fascinating and telling,

some quite heartfelt. All will eventually be posted to the internet, and

will be available to you to be forwarded in a more formal report to state

and national policy makers, politicians, etc..

We will close the survey May 7, 2011.

In the meantime, I ask your help in getting the survey to more people by

again placing the following message in any and all listservs in which you

participate, and sending in email to friends:
