Guest guest
Listmates, Does this mean there’s been another ‘pull’? I hadn’t heard about it if there was. Great news, Liz! I hope it works out. And YES YES YES there’s no requirement to use the money on DT!! You can use it to recruit and pay Personal Support Workers (PSWs) that likes (he’s part of the interviewing process and gets to choose, since they technically work for him) and they can assist him in doing or learning anything in the community that’s of interest to him. My daughter uses a big chunk of her HBCS money to pay ‘friends’ who go mall-walking, volunteering, health clubbing, working, restaurants, personal errrands, and just having fun together. The money doesn’t stretch to everything you might want to put in place for , but it can sure go a long ways toward improving his quality of life. Good luck! Guest guest
Liz!!! Congratulations!! You know I think the fastest place for you to learn the basics of the Home-Based Support Services program is our FAQ document on the home page of our website. Here's the direct link. http://www.familysupportnetwork.org/miscellaneous%20pdfs/2009%20Frequently%2 0Asked%20Questions.pdf. I attempted to write it in momspeak. So hopefully you'll find it easy to use. Sometimes links get " broken " across lines in IPADDU messages. If the link won't open, go to our home page and look about half way down on the right hand side. Good luck and feel free to call me if you want more information. 309-693-8981 or <mailto:fsn@...> fsn@... Guest guest
Hi, There's a lot that Waiver funding can be used for. Check the website of Family Support Network. I think Charlotte has info there. Good luck, hope your son gets the funding. Guest guest
Spot on, Laurie…. And Liz, I don’t think I answered your question directly in my previous e-mail. If wants to take music lessons, you can do that by hiring his teacher as a “personal support workerâ€. It’s a little bit of a pain in the butt, but it will work. He or she will have to agree to be reimbursed by one of the fiscal intermediaries, ACES$ or PPL. You can set the rate of pay … as long as it’s not so high it raises concerns at DHS/DD. Guest guest
Hi Liz- If you'd like your son to learn music, I'd like to talk to you about this. I'm no professional, but I like to sing and can play the piano a little, and can read music. I could teach your son about the notes, if that's an interest he has. Please feel free to email me at kyndojo@.... I look forward to hearing from you. Doreen ________________________________ From: Charlotte Cronin <fsn@...> IPADDUnite Sent: Fri, April 15, 2011 9:07:46 AM Subject: RE: Home Based Waiver  Spot on, Laurie…. I hope it works out. It was news to the PAS agency, too. I'm wondering if my YEARS of persistance is finally off. But when I talked to the PAS Agency, it didn't sound like it was a sure thing; as I was told we'd know something in about 6 weeks. I was told to start looking for a service facilitator. The one I wanted to deal with is no longer taking on new people: Bummer, because the office is at a school I'm at a couple times a month. Thanks for letting me know that it doesn't " have to " be used for DT; that's something the PAS agency didn't tell me. I knew some of the things it could be used for. Guest guest
Or you can be s personal support worker all the time or sometimes. THEN whatever you chose to do with YOUR own paycheck, that's nobodys business but your own, cause guess what, you've paid your taxes on the money becuase Aces$ already took them out for you prior to you getting your own paycheck. I know that it is good that staff get background checked and there is a mountain of paperwork for each Personal support worker, and now you have to get fingerprinted (which again is great but might scare away some if they are the suspicious type, or feel like they can make a buck elsewhere without all the hassles and the wait to get all that paperwork approved. I will say Aces$ has been getting all that paperwork through for approval fairly quickly these days. Please be aware though. IF you are an employee as well (meaning you are the PSW and then spending your paycheck however you want as described above), AND YOU HIRE OTHER WORKERS TOO; then you cannot be the " employer " . You cannot be an employer AND an employee. So in that case, maybe your husband would be willing to sign up as the employer. Being the employer can be in name only if you want it to be. Or they can attend all the meetings that are required throughout the year. The meetings with the ISSA worker from the PAS agency AND the meetings with the Agency you chose to oversee your waiver. I forget what they are called. Hope this helps. Diane S > > Spot on, Laurie…. And Liz, I don’t think I answered your question directly in my previous e-mail. Guest guest
I am thrilled for Liz that she is getting Home Based funding for . It is so flexible and easy to use. I think everyone's suggestions on how to make it work, even for music lessons are excellent. In answer to Laurie's question about a " pull " for funding awards, I am guessing that Liz got funding because there is still a little money left over in some agencies from the grant conversion money that was allotted to agencies who had grant funding. There appear to be little pockets of opportunity for perhaps another month or two, so, if you are on PUNS for waiver/community funding (Home based or CILA), and especially if you have very compelling reasons for needing funding right now, it might be worthwhile to call your PAS Agency and/or your local provider agency and inquire if there is some conversion money left in your area. Go to www.state.il.us/agency/icdd and look under 'online resources,' then publications, then 'community, supports, etc.' to find " Find, Choose and Keep Great DSPs.
