Submit Questions to the White House on Medicaid Cuts Leaders in The Arc: On Thursday, July 14th from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Eastern, Disability.gov will air a live " virtual " Town Hall Meeting to give people a chance to have questions answered by the White House's top advisors on disability policy. As part of The Arc’s “Don’t Cut Our Lifeline!†campaign, we are urging you to ask your constituents to submit questions about cutting federal Medicaid funding. The White House is at a crucial point in their deficit reduction negotiations with Congressional leaders, so we need to reinforce that there is strong and widespread opposition among people in the disability community to such ill-advised cuts. We suggest that people submit one (at a time) of the following questions (taken from the “Questions to Ask at a Town Hall Meeting†document in the campaign toolkit): a.. Does the President support cutting Medicaid services for people with disabilities, seniors, and low income Americans? b.. Does the President support cutting Medicaid when it would force families of people with disabilities to quit their jobs, stop paying taxes, and go on to public assistance to care for their loved ones? c.. Does the President support cutting Medicaid community services when this could mean a return to institutions? d.. What alternatives to Medicaid does the President propose for people with disabilities to get health care and long term services and supports? It’s always preferable to use your own wording and even better if you preface your question by very briefly describing a personal situation where you or a family member or friend relies on Medicaid for vital services (e.g., “My 15 year old son with Down Syndrome relies on Medicaid for… and I want to know…â€). To submit questions, use the form on the Disability.gov web site. The deadline for submitting questions is Wednesday, July 13 at 6:00 PM Eastern. follow on Twitter | friend on Facebook | forward to a friend Copyright © 2011 The Arc of Illinois, All rights reserved.
