Guest guest
As said in his email, every county treats the annual report somewhat differently - some even ignoring it. What we need to keep in mind is that the annual report is the only way the court can keep up with our child's current situation. While we are alive to advocate for our child, the annual report may not be as critical but I feel it is important to establish a regular reporting to the court so that after the parent passes away, the court has information from the parents as to child's needs, etc. One can only hope that a drastic change in care plans after the parent dies, would be questioned by a judge. If the judge has nothing to compare the annual report to, s/he may not question new care plan or recommended change in placement, etc.  Perhaps I'm an eternal optimist but when we, as advocates, worked to improve the tracking of wards, it was with the hope that our kids wouldn't fall through the cracks and that someone in the guardianship system would actually be tracking and monitoring the care they receive. I offer this as I don't want folks to feel the annual report is a pain and something they should avoid having to do. It is a way of creating a paper trail that may help your child when you are no longer here to protect him or her.  Harvey and I are about to get on a plane to return to the U.S. We['ve been in China for the past 3 weeks and have had a delightful time. Will check emails upon our return. They must do things different up north, because they don't do that in Madison County. For the first two years, the lawyer we used sent a reminder, but nothing since then. Nothing from the court. I did file a letter last year, because I had gotten a copy of a paper from a friend of mine. Liz

Guest guest
If you are late submitting the annual report in Lake County they send you a nasty notice. I don't think anyone really looks at the report, but they have a tracking system. We had submitted the report, but someone failed to put they date in there system so we got a notice. Guest guest
Thanks, . It sounds like Illinois has done a decent job of helping families tailor guardianship needs. It also seems that having a knowledgeable attorney for more complicated guardianship issues would be very useful. I think the article on guardianship, even though it was from out of state, may be helpful to some families. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
