Laurie et all, What saddens me, are the people who are unhappily living in the facilities. Is the staff letting them know about Ligas? Are they going to be supportive of them? I doubt it. I know of at least one resident in the facility that my son was in who's been wanting to move. Doesn't sound like she has a supportive family & she's her own guardian. But I seriously doubt that the staff has said anything to her about the lawsuit. She does help do some chores around the facility, but they aren't allowed to use the microwave or cook. What happens with people like her? Liz
Guest guest
Liz: One of the reasons the Ligas Consent Decree was not fought this time around by Misercordia and other ICF/DD's is because it was clearly spelled out in the Decree that only those who request community placement would be eligible for it. It is hoped that everyone's choices will be honored, but, sadly, we know that some individuals will likely not be offered the choice, for various reasons. We have to celebrate the victory at hand. Many who do wish to live in the community will now have the opportunity to do so. We will change the world, one person at a time. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
