Guest guest
Joanne I work at Midwestern University and would be happy to pass your e-mail and any others to the President of the university along with the Chief Academic Officer and dean of the college. Let me know, H. Re: dental question...anesthesia needed Hi My name is Joanne, I am a registered hygienist and have taught dental hygiene for many years. Currently I am at Harper college as a clinical instructor. I am on the IFLOSS/ access to dental care commitee for the IL Dept of public heath. I also have a son with HFA I would suggest you investigate pediatric dental anesthesiologist.. people who are specially trained to administer anesthesia. I know of an individual who brings his services to private dental offices and will sedate a patient while your childs dentist does the work. I have sent an email to him to see what his thoughts are On another note I am actively looking to begin work in a pedodontic practice. I have been working in periododontics (gum disease) for many years) I now want to compliment my teaching to where I influence heathy habits with younger patients... where it can hopefully make a difference. If anyone sees a pedodontist and they are looking for help, let me know! I also knwow that it is really critical with social stories /PECS/ desensitization and or other supports that our kids are provided and to be taught " how to be patient " it is best whenever possible. Avoiding anesthethesia for a patient is primary whenever possible. The risks are real. Dental & dental hygiene students recieve little to no exposure to special needs dentistry. That coupled with dwindiling grants makes for a big problem for families. last, downers grove has an new dental school Midwestern university opening this fall whose model places emphasis on community needs. Perahps IPADD families can get to gether to say - we are here and have kids who have kids with needs and can you develop programming where students can care for our kids in a teaching environment?.. I think that is a great idea if you contact me directly place " from IPADD " in the subject line > > My son Cody (22) has a severe gag reflex and 2 times in the past his pediatric dentist did work on him at Children's under full anesthesia. > Now it looks like we need some more work and because of his age our pediatric dentist referred us to an adult practice (and anesthesiologist) > in Arlington Hts who are not in ANY insurance network. We do have insurance along with medicaid for him but the full cost for the anesthesia is just too much so we are looking for other possibilities. > Our pediatrician referred us to Dr. Shore / Glenview.....also a pediatric dentist.....who could do the work at Lutheran General(this would be within our insurance network)...has anyone had experience with this practice ? > > Or any other suggestions for dentists who are able to do full anesthesia? > Thanks, > Maureen > > P.S. I am noticing some practices who advertise " sedation " but I don't think this would work for us. Cody also gags from smells...I don't think we would be successful with him being " semi " sedated. > ------------------------------------
