House Appropriations Committee Approves Further Cuts to Spending for People With

Disabilities - CORRECTIONSorry to continuously put this out there, but I am

hoping that I can capture infrequent readers of IPADDU, or those who have yet to

follow through. If you have already contacted your State Representative and

your State Senator, thank you...if not...what are you waiting for???

If you are not comfortable scheduling a visit, call...

If you are not comfortable calling...at the very least, please cut and paste

this or one of the other emails I have posted from the Arc of Illinois or the

Family Support Network, into an email to your legislators, with a short note

about how this will affect your loved one or someone you know.

THANK YOU!

House Appropriations Committee Approves Further Cuts to Spending for

People With Disabilities - CORRECTION

Call your legislators NOW!

On May 11, 2011 The House Appropriations Committee released its fiscal

year 2012 spending bills for the various subcommittees with devastating

consequences for people with disabilities and the community-based organizations

that serve them.

The Department of Health & Human Services will receive $139 billion for FY

2012, which is a 15% decrease from fiscal year 2010 and a 12% decrease from

fiscal year 2011. Furthermore, the House of Representatives allocated $1.019

billion for discretionary spending which includes Medicare, Medicaid, and Social

Security and most of the programs affecting those with disabilities.

Unfortunately, this is a 7% decrease from fiscal year 2010, and a 3% decrease

from fiscal year 2011. We cannot accept this continued assault on the most

vulnerable of our population.

For many people with disabilities their quality of life is directly

determined by the services provided by community based organizations such as

Anixter Center and government programs that provide housing, job training &

workforce development, health care & addiction services, including treatment for

persons with HIV.

Take Action against these proposed spending cuts by calling your

legislators with the following messages:

a.. Community services to persons with disabilities cannot endure

another round of devastating cuts. This will lead to increased poverty,

increased dependency on family already with limited resources, and further

isolation from the communities in which they live.

a.. Congress must develop and pass a 2012 appropriations bill that

protects funding for programs serving people with disabilities, their

families, and the community-based organizations that provide direct services.

Our legislators need to hear from you about how these potential spending

cuts will directly impact our communities. Don't let these spending cuts pass

without having your voice heard. Everyone understands the need for fiscal

responsibility but this cannot come at the expense of our most vulnerable

population.
