Guest guest
It is money, no matter how you see it. You can used it to improve your health, go to a baseball game, donate to charity, buy foods, etc. I myself have a personal mission to become independent where I don't need Social Security any more and help other. Does that help your question?
Guest guest
I do reimburse myself for expenditures out of the SSI account. When I make the expenditure I note it in the SSI account book (actually an EXCEL spreadsheet where I track her account on one sheet and ALL of her expenses on another) that it was an expense paid by mom as she had inadequate funds. As she has funds I transfer funds to my own account and refer to the earlier expenditure (usually SRA activities, camp, etc.). Sorry again to be so late responding, but this is important enough to share late in case it is helpful. Gloria
Guest guest
I am starting to figure all this out and appreciate everyone's advice and suggestions. I am also a rep. payee for my older brother and his legal guardian as well. It gets crazy. Guest guest
The only time your income is an issue is if child is under age 18. However, if you called in the month your child turned 18, they will still ask about your income because he was under 18 for a portion of the month therefore ineligible for that month unless family meets financial eligibility level. If you apply on the first day of the month after your child turns 18, they will not ask about family income or resources. If your child has an IQ under 50 and has DS, it should be a slam dunk in applying for SSI. Terrie Varnet From: roxanne.remitz <roxanne.remitz@...> Subject: SSI IPADDUnite Date: Saturday, July 16, 2011, 5:54 PM  Looking for help in filing for SSI...they have asked me inappropriate questions over the phone ( ie: what is our family income) so I decided to just hire this out....my son is 19, we have legal guardianship and he has Down syndrome.
