Guest guest
Thanks for the information as I live in Naperville now. Naperville Mayoral Candidates One of our three candidates for Naperville Mayor, Kenn , includes people with physical and developmental disabilities in his top three priorities! And he doesn't just talk the talk, either. He's personally opened doors for local students with disabilities to get paying jobs in our community. The other two mayoral candidates don't even have us on their radar screens. Important reading if you're a Naperville resident and if access to your local community is a priority. Early voting starts March 14th, regular election is April 5th -- be informed and then, PLEASE, get out to vote. Our voices are important. Here's an excerpt from today's article in the Naperville Sun. Mar 6, 2011 02:22AM The race for mayor in Naperville is no place for newbies. Three men are running for mayor in the April 5 election. They are all very well known residents: Incumbent Mayor A. Pradel and City Council members Kenn and Doug Krause. During the campaign, each candidate has worked to show what separates him from the others in the race. Below are their responses to some questions from The Sun: Kenn Age: 66 Occupation: Vice president of Autism Home Support Services. After 20 years in medical device sales, marketing and general management with American Hospital Supply and Baxter Health care, he co-founded a medical device company, consulted in business development and general management and in 2010 co-founded a company that provides therapy to children with autism. E-mail: kenn@... What are some of your goals if elected? What is my No. 1 campaign issue? We must make Naperville more responsive to businesses and entrepreneurs. I will actively lead the City Council and city manager's efforts to create a more business compatible environment in the city of Naperville. I will work with the Naperville Development Partnership, city staff and the Chamber of Commerce to draw businesses to Naperville. Further, I will work with the city staff and NDP in creating a business concierge role, whose responsibility will be to help new and existing Naperville businesses in dealing with the city on permits, inspections, etc., and understanding the city's municipal codes. I believe in this issue so much that my campaign has joined the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. What is my No. 2 campaign issue? I believe we need to create an enterprise center. When Chinese President Hu Jintao chose to visit Chicago as his only other stop on his recent state visit, he signaled to the world the great importance that Illinois can play in global business. President Hu didn't stop in Naperville with its significant Chinese community, however. I will work with the Naperville Asian community and local business, such as, Lucent, Kraft, Tellabs, Nalco, Navistar and Phoenix Closures and others to expand a business and cultural relationships between our city and Asian countries. Many Asians trade back and forth and I believe an enterprise center that focuses on trade, business needs and professional expertise would be beneficial to increasing the importance of Naperville as a center of excellence and entrepreneurial support. What is my No. 3 campaign issue? I feel that we must make Naperville more responsive to people with disabilities. Given the high percentage of Naperville families that wrestle with disabilities every day, I will start a real dialogue with the community. This dialogue will include parents, the two local school districts (203 and 204), foundations, health institutions, businesses and community organizations, with the goal of creating a positive and safe environment for people with physical and developmental disabilities to mainstream into our city. I will work to develop a plan that will help families whose loved ones are leaving the structured environment of school and facing the pressures of life as an adult.
