Leaders in The Arc:

I have some extremely bad news regarding severe cuts to disability services for

children and adults for the current fiscal year ordered by the Governor's Budget

Office beginning as soon as possible:

Most grant funded services will be eliminated in this fiscal year including

respite, dental, training and epilepsy grants.

Family Assistance Grants will be reduced by 50% in this fiscal year and

eliminated in F2012.

Home-Based Services for children and adults will see a 10% cut on the current

cap immediately.

At this time, the 6% cut to Medicaid rates is still scheduled for July 1, 2011.

You need to call the Governor and talk to your Senators and Representatives and

tell them these cuts are unacceptable. Tell them we need a supplemental

appropriation to fund these important services.

Sen. Mattie Hunter, chair of the Senate Appropriations II Committee, has called

a hearing on DHS cuts for the current fiscal year on Thursday, Feb. 24th at

10:00 a.m. in Room 16-503, Center.

ACTION NEED!

Please call the Governor and your Senators and Representatives and tell them

these cuts are unacceptable. Tell them we need a supplemental appropriation to

fund these

important services.

 

We need to make our voices heard and tell our Governor and legislators that

these cuts are unacceptable.

You all need to be aware of this as it will likely impact most of you.

Please call or email the Governor (217-557-5463, governor@...) and your

State Representative and State Senator in the next few days and communicate your

own personal stories and the needs of your loved one. Tell them that they

cannot balance the budget on the backs of individuals with disabilities.
