Guest guest
Here is an amendment that is being proposed in both the House and the Senate which could benefit many of our loved ones who have a disability. If you agree, contact your State Rep and your State Senator to tell them that you support this amendment the the Community Mental Health Act. Ellen SB 1584 (Crotty)/HB 2105 (Winters) Fact Sheet The purpose of this amendment to the Community Mental Health Act (405 ILCS 20) is to authorize counties and Cook County townships with no local mental health authorities to form mental health advisory committees comprised of community stakeholders. The mental health advisory committee is charged with identifying and assessing current mental health services, monitoring the expansion or contraction of those services, and, if necessary, recommend any additional services. As federal and state health/Medicaid reform must be implemented locally and now, more than ever, local mental health authorities serve as a safety net for the community mental health system, it is important to form, at a minimum, a voluntary mental health advisory committee to coordinate local efforts to carry out these new federal and state policies. Funding Requirements No funding required; Mental Health Advisory Committees are made up of voluntary members, do not fund services, and will have no taxing authority. Time Period This requirement will sunset on December 31, 2018.
