An Ah-ha moment on TV last night

Hello All,

I haven't had time to post anything on IPADD lately but a few things are in the

works...mostly disability and the arts.....and doing some work for the

Book.

Haven't had time to watch TV or read or anything remotely relaxing but....last

night, Chuck was at a meeting, Greg went to a concert, Ben was at his apartment

and Russ decided he wanted to watch his Tiger Movie yet again and I turned on

some mindless TV because I was ALONE.

I channel surfed and stopped on NBC's " Parenthood " , mostly because there is a

child character with Aspergers and a character/therapist was dealing with the

kid having a meltdown about stickers...we've all been there. Anyway, the mom was

arranging the Apsie kid's birthday party and learned the " Bug Guy " she was going

to hire for entertainment was an adult with Aspergers and she was conflicted

about it. She talked with her husband and...here's when the " ah-ha "

happened...he says something like, " we're so used to dealing with kids with

autism, we forget they grow up " ........what? our problems being mentioned on

prime time? Anyway, cut to the party and the grandpa is looking at the Bug Guy

askance because he's, well, odd and the dad tells Grandpa " oh he has autism " .

Grandpa (Craig T. ) is so excited... " you mean he has Aspergers and a

JOB? " ...and Dad nods his head. Wow.

So folks, we're mainstream finally. I TiVoed the show and had Chuck watch it

(we fast forwarded through the divorced dad/mom drama and the infertility stuff

)with me.

That's my contribution today....somehow, our problems are finally worth being on

TV. Do you feel good about it? I think I do.

Marie

that is one of my favorite shows......the kid actor is amazing.  They have a

few

episodes dealing with autism.  The last was the grandpa taking Maxx

camping.

They do a good job on trying to get it right.
