Hi, my name is Ludwig, and I'm the Youth Services Coordinator at the

Dupage Center for Independent Living, an information and refferal/support and

advocacy center for people with disabilities. This message is to let any

interested parent or caretaker know that a Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) will be

established at the Center, starting in April.

NCBC is a program originally introduced and promoted by UPS for DownS (United

Parent Support for Down Syndrome), a resource and advocacy center for

individuals and families responding to the challenges presented by Down

Syndrome. The central theme of the club is to provide an avenue of

socialization for the developmentally disabled (kids or adults, with any DD, not

just Down Syndrome). Obviously, there's a focus on an appreciation for reading,

literature, and literacy, but the main goal of NCBC is to provide a sense of

belonging, to encourage interaction, and build friendships.

The content (what's being read) and focus (how fast or slow the books will be

read) is determined by the members. NCBC is their group; the members decide

what they would like the club to be. As a facilitator, my role is to keep the

club on-task--whatever the chosen task may be--and to keep things friendly.

There are currently 7 membership slots available. If you'd like to inquire

about membership, or simply want more info on the Next Chapter Book Club or the

Dupage Center for Independent Living, please e-mail me at

chris_dupagecil@.... I can also be reached by phone at 630-469-2300,

or if you'd like to come to the Center in person to check it out, we're located

at:

Dupage Center for Independent Living

739 Roosevelt Road, Building 8, Suite 109

Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

I'm excited about starting the Next Chapter Book Club at the Dupage Center for

Independent Living, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Much obliged,

Ludwig
