Arc Summary of The Life Public Affairs Campaign

The Arc of Illinois

March 28, 2011

MESSAGE FROM THE ARC TO ITS MEMBERS OUTLINING A SUMMARY OF

THE LIFE PUBLIC AFFAIRS CAMPAIGN

Leaders in The Arc:

You are all aware of the fiscal challenges facing the State of Illinois,

specifically as it relates to the much talked about budget cuts for disability

programs. While The Arc has maintained a high profile in advocating for no cuts

and additional resources, we are excited for our next phase and perhaps the most

aggressive approach to date.

We plan to launch a progressive public affairs campaign the week of March 28th!

The campaign is a comprehensive approach to educating legislators and other

policy makers about the critical nature of services geared towards keeping

people with disabilities in their homes and communities. To give you a preview

of the activities to come, our agenda includes editorial board meetings and

working with reporters throughout the state to educate them about the issues

that are important to us and the critical nature of continuing to fully fund

disability programs. It also includes extensive lobbying efforts, an innovative

social media campaign and perhaps most important, a communications plan that

keeps you informed and actively involved. We also plan to create a forum where

you can share your experiences in an attempt to better educate lawmakers and the

general public about how funding for disability programs impact your life.

Your participation is critical to the success of this campaign.

The Illinois General Assembly is looking at serious budget cuts and those

decisions will be made in the coming weeks and months. While we are working

under a tight timeframe, from now until May 31st, expect to see a lot of

activity and coordinated effort to ensure that people with disabilities have

access to necessary state funding that will help them continue to live with

independence, dignity and respect.

I look forward to announcing the campaign this week and to your continued

support and participation.
