Guest guest
Yes, true, but...in general toddlers are cuter than teen-agers - with or without disabilities. A dear friend once pointed out to me when my son was younger that what I was agonizing over was not a 'special parent' issue, but just a parenting one. You didn't turn into a whiner........what you are saying is true. Recently I had to pick 25 pics for my son at different stages of his life. The early year pics were so easy. Had alot of trouble picking ones in High School. And he is my son......doesn't smile like he once did. Great Video. Cute kids. ________________________________ From: Pamela <psc1106@...> IPADDUnite Sent: Sat, March 26, 2011 3:03:51 PM Subject: Re: Fw: You got to see this video...it's beautiful!! It's pretty darn cute and of course the girl is also pretty darn cute. Will everyone hate me if I say that people are often willing to help/sympathize/like/talk to/interact/fund/etc babies and children with disabilities, but avoid - at almost all costs - adults who look or act funny? (Apparently I turned into a whiner and old curmudgeon recently.) Guest guest
One of those little moments that made me REALLY value inclusion was when was in second grade, fully included in our neighborhood school, and home sick with a cold or similar crud. I was lamenting via phone that I hated that I could never figure out when to keep him home from school, totally blaming my inability on his disabilities. My friend, the mother of three sons all about ’s age, said, “CHARLOTTE, I can never figure out when to keep my sons home either!†It made me realize how much I blamed on his disabilities that had NOTHING to do with them. On a similar note, about that same time the chicken pox (I think) went through the grade school. I bet half the school had ‘em at one time or another, including and his sister. Because was fully included, all the moms were rotating support. We were able to share kid care in each other’s homes, not to mention moral support. I’ve always found it ironic that that our systems spend a lot of money segregating our children and then a lot of money compensating for not only the lost natural community supports, but the lost opportunities for our kids to learn from each other. Ahem.. back to work.
