If the applicant is 18 years or over, parents' income and assets have no bearing

on the application.

With one exception:

- if the applicant is 18 but was 17 years old on the 1st of the month of

application, since he/she was 17, parents' income & assets will be asked for:

ie: my son turned 18 on Dec 11. I could not apply for SSI in December because,

on Dec 1, he was still 17 and they would use my income & assets.

    I applied in January because he was 18 on Jan 1st so they do not have to

look at my income & assets.

just started the SSI paperwork online and I have an appointment March 25th. Is

this stipend based on the parents income? The woman on the phone wanted to know

our monthly income.

I believe SSI for an adult should not beaffected by a parental income...I

just did it myself and I don' recall that question being asked.

Your income should not be an issue if your child is over 18.
