Guest guest
Wow...Ed McManus, Network Facilitator for my region, Lilia Teninty and now Charlotte...is it something we said??? Seriously, this is a big loss for Illinois...huge really...but these three dedicated folks have served us above and beyond and I know I am grateful for all that they have done for our loved ones... I am just so sad to lose them! Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... Family Support Network Advocacy Job Opportunity Family Support Network Members and Friends. . .. Really, it’s not an epidemic… Yesterday our world rocked when our well loved Director of Developmental Disabilities, Lilia Teninty, announced her resignation. She is leaving us to go work for Agosta at the Institute on Human Services Research Institute (HSRI) in Portland, Oregon. and his team worked with the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities to write the “Blueprint for System Redesign in Illinoisâ€. You all know how important that document has been for us and how it has moved us forward. I am excited that if we can’t have her here, she’ll continue to be able to impact our advocacy through the good work of HSRI. Lilia’s message is below. “Hello, Everyone, I informed Division staff and all DHS Leadership today that after much thought and consultation with my family, I am resigning as Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities to accept a position with HSRI (Human Services Research Institute). Given all that we have accomplished over the past four years, this was a very difficult decision to make. I am confident the leadership of DHS under Secretary Saddler and Assistant Secretary Grace Hou will continue to move the service system for people with developmental disabilities forward in a manner consistent with the vision we have established. And they will have the benefit of working closely with the strong leadership team we have developed within the Division. My last day with the state will be Friday, April 15th. Reta Hoskin will assume the role of Acting Director as Secretary Saddler works with the Administration to identify a new Director for the Division. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve in this position and for your support of people with developmental disabilities in Illinois. Very Sincerely, Lilia†Many will remember that recently I suggested we send Thank You notes to Director Teninty. This morning she sent me the following message. I thought you’d enjoy it… “I assume you had something to do with the stack of thank you notes I have on my desk. Thank you for that effort. I will keep them all as reminders of the wonderful people working to make the lives of people with developmental disabilities better in this challenging environment. All the best, Lilia†Sooooo… Those of you who know me well, also know that I have been planning to “reshape†my advocacy since last fall. After a long, happy, and empowering career, I will be stepping down as the Director of the Family Support Network effective July 1st. I am using the excuse of my husband’s retirement to reframe my advocacy efforts, re-charge my batteries, and do some traveling. My commitment to people with disabilities and their families remains strong and I WILL remain a VERY active volunteer “super†advocate for both the FSN and The Arc of Illinois. I will support the Family Support Network and The Arc however they wish. For instance, I hope to continue doing the “Dreaming New Dreams†Webinars on a regular basis. So know all these things: · continues to have very significant disabilities. I will always be here fighting for him. · You guys are my best friends. Really… I couldn’t breathe thinking I wasn’t going to be in regular contact with the most passionate, fun, and wonderful people anywhere. · You can always contact me to see if I know what you think will help you. And I can’t wrap this up without expressing my heartfelt thanks to The Arc of Illinois and Tony auski. Many of you may not be aware that the Family Support Network was running on fumes (out of money) five and a half years ago when The Arc took us under their wing, forming a powerful alliance that has been nothing short of wonderful. The message I received was keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll support you however you need. And they have. Are You Interested in My Job? Think You’d Make a GREAT Director of the Family Support Network? Applications are now being taken! The new Director must be an energetic, creative person committed to the philosophy of Family Support. He or she must also: · Have a good understanding of the legislative process · Be a good communicator · Have good computer skills · Be a self-motivator · Be well organized · Be able to work unsupervised · Be able to keep confidences · Be diplomatic · Be able to listen to others with patience and empathy · Be able to speak in front of groups · Be able to write articles for and edit the FSN Newsletter or similar publications Resumes may be submitted to The Arc of Illinois at 20901 LaGrange Rd, Ste. 209, fort, IL 60423 or by e-mail at Tony@.... A complete job description is available by e-mail or by calling 847-464-1832. So Now Let’s Get Back to Work. Guest guest
Okay, Folks… thank you all for your wonderful words. But, I’m feeling a little dismayed. I’m not leaving our disability advocacy. Just RE-SHAPING! I’ll be in the fray with all of you just without having to BE IN CHARGE on a day to day basis. Really I’ve been feeling burned out, crabby… frustrated… and not just about the current economic debacle. So I’m looking forward to catching my breath, taking my soon to be college graduate on vacation, and leaping back into the fray. I’m way more dismayed about losing Lilia and Ed. Boy, talk about things coming in threes! At least we’re not dead.
