Guest guest
This reminds me of something funny I wanted to share with y'all but until Laurie's post was embarrassed to admit. We took Quentin to the Chords4Kids concert downtown Naperville as we have every year since moving here 5 years ago. We always enjoy it but my husband (ok, he's French) commented that it was much better this year at engaging the audience EXCEPT for the clown they brought in who " didn't even wear a costume " . I had to inform him that was our Mayor and he still thinks I'm joking. Thais
Guest guest
We have never had an opportunity like this and we may never get another one. I have done what I can do to get the word out..even some of my friends who favor the Carillonn have agreed to vote for Ken because of his position on people with disabilities. You are probably one of the best writers I know, if anyone can scribe a kick butt letter to the paper..it is you. I will be very disappointed the day after the election if Ken loses. If he does that will tell the current administration people with disabilities like being treated like poor pathetic_______. We like having our heads patted. I guess pulling out all the stops and calling or e mailing everyone we know to encourage them to vote for Ken..I am at a loss. This is our big chance....u nless Ken throws in the towel and runs for the house. I know I know he has said no, but whoe knows!. Guest guest
Writing letters to the paper may be one thing, how about continuing to contact all our friends, families who have kids with disabilities, support Ken . This is why it is so important to make sure our kids are registered to vote!
Guest guest
I think the truth lies in action...Thais gave an excellent example of your current Mayor's demeanor...Thais' husbands being French has nothing to do with his insight and reaction... I have met Kenn on a few occasions...I believe he is probably the real deal...but lots of promises are made during a campaign...always easier to be that arm chair Quarterback! I know I would be voting for Kenn... Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
Guest guest
Campaign promises are just that -- promises. Past actions are just that -- past actions. What personally inspires me about Kenn is his qualifications and expertise in all areas, not just the disabilities world. He has reached out to every corner of this community to make it a better community. He is intelligent and honest. He follows through on what he says he will do. He understands city and state finances. If you have doubts watch the candidate forums. He is clearly the most qualified candidate. Of course, his passion for making our community more inclusive is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. I wholeheartedly agree with Cindi, we may never get a chance like this again. Guest guest
Another voice to add to the fray....notwithstanding Kenn's appreciation of what doesn't work vs. what does when it comes to our kids.... <== rant on ==> <== flame-retardant suit on ==> Not to go too far off-topic, but there are many, many, many reasons to, at a minimum, not re-elect Mayor Pradel....AND to elect Kenn . Mayor Pradel is, from my experience a nice man, trying his best with a string of verifiable successes to maintain the helm of a foundering vessel. I think we can all agree that ribbon-cutting ceremonies and attendance at all manner of functions is part of the job, not the crux of it. One of my larger problems with his wanting to continue his 16-year reign..he seems adept at solving symptoms and not problems....note his amended website...would that have appeared if disabled individuals were not on any candidate's radar? Is forcing police layoffs and compromising city services really where we want to go, or is everyone happy that snow plows appear at the first sign of flakes? Naperville has problems, just like most American cities, that are not responding to the 'same old, same old' brand of leadership. Years ago I learned approximately 25% of tax revenue came from the sale of cars...anyone drive down W. Ogden Avenue recently and count the number of empty, abandoned car lots?? The site of the former Menards on W. Ogden/Jefferson Ave. has been vacant, if memory serves, for some 8-10 years. Strip malls all across the city are sporting disturbing vacancy rates...some have more units vacant than occupied. Not sure why a blind eye has been turned to this (one of many) issue(s). I'm no Ph.D, but can guarantee enhanced revenue collections by figuring out what it takes to get a business up and running in this city. Do you have to be a huge corporation for city government to step in with incentives???? The vacant Menards and car dealerships are the obvious ones..I'm sure there are other revenue opportunities being squandered. The point (finally!)...it's time for some new blood. I personally think that Kenn is spot-on with his position on numerous issues and although I don't personally agree with them all, I hope he wins. <== rant off ==> <== flame-retardant suit off ==> Al Karman
