Urgent Arc Alert - Call the Governor Today

March 8, 2011

Leaders in The Arc:

I am anticipating a very important meeting with Secretary Saddler later this

week. The topic for that meeting will be further budget cuts for this fiscal

year.

In preparation for that meeting, I need you to generate as many calls as

possible to the Governors office. The message is very simple: NO CUTS TO

DISABILITY SERVICES!

At this very moment, discussions are underway about the elimination of

disability services. It is vital that you make your calls today.

Here are the telephone numbers for the Governors office in both Chicago and

Springfield.

Chicago: 312-814-2121

Springfield: 217-782-6830

Make your calls today!

Do we know whether the governor gets an accounting of the calls. The last

time I made the call the call taker acted very disinterested, and when I

said I was opposing whatever it is we were opposing at the time, she asked

in somewhat of a whiney voice

" WHYYY " .

And are we reminding the gov how much we are going to lose from the feds

when we make cuts to the matching programs?

This is all so _______ unbelievable.

I like e's idea about calling every day!

I did call yesterday, of course, but I think I will call all week, at least.

It does infuriate me that we supported a tax increase...and now this!

I wonder this also. I'm also wondering if all the calls to the governor, or

legislators REALLY do any good, or are we just wasting our time? I ALSO wonder

WHY does the governor need TWO offices? Do most governors have two?

The governor's office just tallies the calls - pro and con - on an issue. So,

yes.

I just called there again and asked if they wanted my name and phone number.

She stated that, " No, due to the volume of calls, they are taking a tally and

giving him the numbers " .

I agree, call every day!!! Let's get those number up there!!!!

I called both numbers, today & yesterday, and got the same response each time:

" I'll pass this along to the Governor. "

maybe we need t notch the stratedy..as has been stated, call every day...and

we call keep calling every day, maybe all day until there is some sence to

this. I am tired of calling, but maybe that is what we have to do..keep

calling all day speedd dial the two numbers constantly. hmmm, has to be

some strategy that lets them know we are here.

Maybe so many of us are calling, that they got sick of us, so they decided to

SAYit was the SS office. I just emailed a letter to the governor's office &

made phone calls yesterday. Might get to do it tomorrow. Will see if some of the

others at school will also.

I would guess that they were overloaded with calls from people wanting to weigh

in with the Guv about the death penalty. Now that he's made a decision on the

death penalty, he'll get some more calls from those who are unhappy, but those

calls will decrease rapidly.

Called both offices again today. I was working today at a school where all the

kids have disabilities. Told them I was working with 4 others, but that there

was 70 staff members at the school...(actually it's more like 30-40)But anyway,

I asked if all of them should be calling separetely. (said no, that they'd " pass

it on to the Governor)...

That got me thinking, is the list that they're doing supposed to be public

information? We're going to Springfield next month & plan on stopping at the

capital.
