Guest guest
Hi all: I know Bedard, one of our IPADDU members, is active in this group, as I have been from time to time. I want to highlight NOEWAIT for their remarkable accomplishments. I would encourage any of you who might have the time and the interest to consider working with NOEWAIT. Denver and the other movers and shakers in that group are wonderful people. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... (NOEWAIT) Some Recent Accomplishments of NOEWAIT Some Recent Accomplishments of NOEWAIT, the National Organization to End the Waitlists I wanted to personally share with you some of the positive steps and actions that NOEWAIT has accomplished this past year. This has been done entirely by volunteers – folks like you. We have no staff, no offices, no “formal†organization and hardly any budget. Our petition continues to be signed, now with over 12,500 signatures, and several thousand very poignant comments. It has been presented by you and others to the President of the United States, members of congress, state and local legislators, and national leaders. The YouTube presentation, Disabilities Don’t Wait, has been viewed over 10,000 times, and has been turned into a DVD, which has and is being sent out to scores of leaders, educators, trainers and organizations. The video has been embedded in several other organization's websites. The DVD has been shown to thousand of folks at the Family Café Conference in Florida and the Reinventing Quality Education Conference in Baltimore. Display tables have been set up and manned at several conferences in Baltimore and Florida, where hundreds of folks received the NOEWAIT brochure and other information. Some of you have become very active state coordinators and helpers, speaking to groups on the Waitlist’s behalf, passing out materials, contacting legislators We have developed a soon-to-be-formally-released simple and clear Position Paper entitled “Hundreds of Thousands of People with Disabilities and their Families Across the United States Wait for Help†We have brought new vital members onto our Steering Committee We are revising our current brochure We will have NOEWAIT testimony at each of the five “envisioning the future†hearings being held in Philadelphia, Orlando, Dallas, Denver and Detroit. We continue to receive support and assistance from The Family Café in Florida. We have completely redone and updated our old website into a modern and effective tool. We have several state Arcs and other state-wide organizations who are participating and supporting NOEWAIT We have received numerous requests to be added to our NOEWAIT listserv maillist. We have revised our letterhead. We will be presenting at the upcoming TASH Conference in Denver in early December. We are considering a NOEWAIT leadership conference in June, integrated with the Family Café Conference June 3-5. Wouldn’t it be nice to get some funding for that!! AND OUR BIGGEST NEED IS: - you guessed it – Finding folks with enough time and energy to devote to NOEWAIT in addition to the roles they play as parents, family members, individuals with disabilities and friends. We need active state coordinators, Steering Committee members, and just plain volunteers, Thank you all SO much for your work and efforts. There are just too many folks to list, and I would leave out some people, and I would feel bad about that. And, what did I forget?
