SCHOOL, FAMILY and COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

In planning for your child’s future

Presented by:

Hans

Parent Mentor, NSSED and APS

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

New Trier Northfield Campus*

Building C – Board Room C234, North Entrance

7 Happ Road – Northfield, Illinois

Research and best practice from the country’s elite universities support that

the convergence of the three areas of influence in a child’s life – school,

family and community – result in better student outcomes. In no case is this

more highly evident than for children with disabilities. Before our children

complete their school years, it is critical that we look to building support

systems that involve family and community partners to ensure the best possible

long term outcomes for our children. This session will introduce the concept of

these partnerships, and model how they can be incorporated into current school

programming and future planning. Hans serves as the Parent Mentor for the

Northern Suburban Special Education District (NSSED), and as the Coordinator of

School, Family and Community Partnerships, under a grant from the Illinois State

Board of Education. is the parent of four children, two currently in the

public school system with IEPs. She holds a BA from Northwestern University and

is a trained mediator.
