I have tried many times over the years to get the AARP exec to call me. Never

returned my calls. I cancelled my membership. Charlotte

I am sad to say I haven't been reading the AARP mag-- starting getting it just

before my b-day in October. I would be willing to write something as well. Just

haven't had time to do anything but get my choirs ready for the big push for

Christmas. I can contact AARP if you wish, but after my holidays gigs are over.

Hi Ellen,  Several years ago, perhaps 5 - 6, AARP ran several articles on aging

parents caring for disabled adult children.  They even flew me to Washington to

give a presentation to staff and counselors about this need.  I've forgotten

the

name of the woman in charge of the program but will see if I can't track it

down.  I'm assuming she has left AARP but they were pretty keen on this topic

back then.  Perhaps you can search their archives for copies of the articles in

the AARP magazine and newsletter.  Terrie Varnet

Maybe Marie will have more luck than Charlotte has had, trying to contact AARP.

Marie, we will wait to hear back after the holidays, as to whether you have been

able to contact someone at AARP about a series of articles we are interested in

writing.

I have no clue. It was a few years ago. I did due diligence, found out who

the Ex. Director of the Illinois chapter of AARP was. I contacted her more

than once asking for a return call and never got one. Charlotte

Perhaps it will help to know whom Charlotte contacted. Often times, if this

isn't their 'job', they won't do anything AND they won't pass it on to the

person whose job it is! Does that make sense and sound familar?

Will check my next issue when it comes to see who's who on the editorial

board of AARP. I'll check back after that. And maybe I'll read it to get an

idea about what would 'fit' best. Since working with our publisher/editor

for the '' book, I think I understand what would be a good way to

approach these folks--and how to present it best. Perhaps, each of us could

take a part of the big picture and not do things that overlap too much but

present a series that would cover the important parts, such as daily life

skills, future planning etc. that would be of interest to the AARP

population---US!

Hi Charlotte, My contacts were all with Washington office. I've asked my

assistants to look in back records to see if they can find the name of the

contact person who invited me to speak at National meeting of counselors for

AARP.  If the particular staff person is no longer with AARP, perhaps someone

has been hired in a similar position and would be an appropriate contact. I'll

forward info as soon or if info can be found. Terrie

Thanks, Terrie, but I didn’t start this message thread. I don’t know who did

originally start it.

At the time I wanted AARP to advocate with families for services for people with

DD living with aging caregivers.

I’m just kind of done with AARP. I think they are more about the products they

can sell us and I don’t think they particularly represent me in their

advocacy.
